  1. Highway Prayer

From the recording Blue Book

In 1985 (or 6?) Tommy and I recorded this with Paul Henehan and Red Priest in a big house on Grande Route St. John. Flash forward to June 2015. Kip and I went to New Orleans and recorded the song again with Tommy and Paul Santopadre. I thought the lyrics needed an update and Tommy helped me do that. You can hear the old demo here as well, under the heading "Demos Old and New."

Lyrics

there's a bright light shining down on the water saw it through a break in the trees silver line of light shining down for me to follow and I'm driving across the river going where I please full moon shine your blue lights all around me shine a little dream down on me when I get a little closer gonna see a little clearer don't show me any signs I know the way when I get to the place I belong this time--please let me stay got my window down; I'm still driving the sound of the road in my ears just letting me know I'm still alive will this be the last time I ever pass through here? full moon shine your blue lights all around me shine a little dream down on me when I get a little closer gonna see a little clearer don't show me any signs I know the way when I get to the place I belong this time--please let me stay I don't mind looking in the rearview at everything that used to comfort me I know the place I'm headed is the perfect place to be full moon shine your blue lights all around me shine a little dream down on me when I get a little closer gonna see a little clearer don't show me any signs I know the way when I get to the place I belong this time--please let me stay
